We are pleased to present the 7-finalist in the MCC
j-mccauley.blogspot.ca First Annual Brand Simon Rojas’ Head Sponsorship Design
Competition (#simonhead) for the Ride for Heart on Sunday June 3, 2012, for the
Heart and Stroke Foundation. We apologize that we cannot return any losing
entries as they have all been shredded. Good luck to our finalists! (As always click on the image for a larger view)
Finalist #1: Though simple in its execution the judges felt
it a ‘classic helmet’ that Simon might continue to wear beyond the actual ride
day. And although the rules stated a strict use of Orange 021 only, the slashes
of fuchsia add a certain joie-de-vivre to this entry and they have permitted it
to remain. Rules schmules!?
Finalist #2: With its almost super hero overtones and the gestural
nod to the burka which perfectly encapsulates Toronto’s multiculturalism, the
judges felt this would be real show stopper on the downhill portion of the ride
on the DVP. The only concern expressed was that of a small allusion to Isadora
Duncan, RIP.
Finalist #3: No design competition is complete without at
least one clown wig entry and boy did we get a beauty in this oversized, maxed
out, orange-o-licious number complete with hair pick. The judges felt this
entry was the most PR-able, and should this be the winner, would encourage
Simon to go topless with our logo body painted on his torso. Fun, n’est-ce pas?
Finalist #4: Many feel the deely bopper craze has run its
course but this modernized orange peacock feather eye version might just extend
that trend a tad. The judges had no trouble envisioning the jiggle jaggle
joggle playful motion as Simon rode with each of the small mirrors in each
feather eye catching the light of our favourite star. However, the judges remarked
that Simon would be well advised to wear a strong pair of goggles!
Finalist #5: This ‘We are from France’ entry was an instant
hit with the judges! They also appreciated the subtle overtones of the unicorn,
lone and mythic, yet fierce. And should Simon have a break down this entry can
do double duty as a road cone. A marvellous combination of style and function!
Finalist #6: At first glance the judges felt there had been
a misinterpretation of Simon’s origins in Chile, not Chili, but the sleek aerodynamic
volume won them over. And when they learned it would be coated in real capsicum
(!) leaving a fine dust of hot powder in its wake they all grinned evilly and
said, ‘Finalist!’
Finalist #7: Road Warrior! Road Warrior! Road Warrior! The judges
just can’t say ‘Road Warrior’ enough times about this faux-retro-post-apocalyptic
‘Road Warrior’ entry with its ever so subtle gladiatorial wink to 'I am Spartacus!' Just wow!
